So just before leaving for holiday we had an issue start gaining traction where clicking in Excel it doesnt quite select the right cell you clicked on (think I want C3, but Excel actually picks E14 instead), general navigation around is poor with a bad screen refresh.
And the way your told about is, when contacting someone in support about something else your asked “Are you looking at that Excel issue???”. My initial response was “urm…. what excel issue?” And then they shared…..
Straight into troubleshooting and the creation of a triage list. Looking at the problem record that was raised it was limited to just those using Virtual Desktop.
So we started triaging:
- Current Windows Version
- Current build of M365 Apps
- List of Windows Updates
- List of Other updates
- “Show me the issues..” and take notes/screen recording
With that list, do you think we were able to replicate? Nope! And can we pin on any recent changes? Nope as the issue was occuring on multiple builds, multiple channels and multiple windows OS versions. oh and everything works fine in Excel on the web.
As for attempting to replicate on our own Virtual Desktop – nope not a chance. So off to Microsoft Support for triage.
We also tried the “zooom in then zoom out” which did work for about 5 minutes!
Then talking with our overseas teams it seems issues were happening to those users in one country.
Great now we’ve narrowed it down some. So off we go to talk to the Local IT Team. And then we hear one of our 1st line support team in that same country had the issue. They then replaced their physical machine and then connecting back to the UK Virtual Desktop started working inExcel all ok. And then an hour or so later it started having issues following updates on that local device.
Last I heard before my holiday was that local IT are looking at it, we heard from a team in Australia were having the same issues with their Virtual Desktop users based in the same location as we were!
Once i’m back from holiday and theres an update to share, I’ll share.
And heres the view as I type.
