One Microsoft Teams client to rule them all…

Back in August 2024, Microsoft announced the “Unification of the Microsoft Teams App for work, personal and education accounts”

From 20 August 2024, there will only be one Microsoft Teams app which covers both Work or School and personal use. This replaces the two apps that Microsoft historically had.

A few things to highlight:

All accounts in one place

You can now add Work or School accounts and personal Microsoft accounts into the single app. Work, personal and education accounts will open in side-by-side windows in that single app

Select Account to join meetings

When joining meetings you’ll be able to select the account you want to join if you have multiple accounts, or join as a guest.

Admin Settings

It is possible to restrict what teams sign-ins can be used in the desktop app. More information can be found here. Interestingly, it discusses using an ADMX to apply via Group Policy but I cant seem to find any documentation of this appearing in either Intune settings or Office Config settings at this time. If I do find any, I’ll update the post.
