New CloudPC Recommendation Report

Microsoft announced the arrival of a new report for the Windows 365 CloudPCs which helps identify and recommend actions of devices that are either under-utilised, both under and oversized along with Goldilocks favourite, devices that are just right.

The report can be accessed from Intune > Reports > Cloud PC recommendations (preview). From the main page, this shows the data in graph form.

Clicking the link, it will give you another overview graph of the devices in the relevant categories:

  • Rightsized – This is where the device is perfectly sized and the user isnt experiencing many issues
  • Undersized – Shows devices that are at risk of experiencing performance issues
  • Oversized – Shows devices that are more powerful then the user needs
  • Underutilised – This category shows those devices that are rarely or hardly used. A device will fall into this category is there is less than 40 hours of active usage over a 28 day period.

Clicking on Insights by device will show a list of the devices with recommendations for each device. Only devices with some level of user utilization have details on the CPU and RAM used.

Select a Cloud PC to see more information and an explanation of the recommendation.

The report shows the following columns:

  • Device name
  • User name
  • Insight: Rightsized, Undersized, Oversized, or Underutilized.
  • Current size
  • Recommended size: The recommended size to change the Cloud PC’s categorization to Rightsized.
  • Total time connected (last 4 weeks)

The last option is Insights by Model which shows the PC type and the number of devices falling in to each category. PC types that have many Cloud PCs in non-Rightsized columns might indicate the type isn’t a good fit for your workloads.

With this new report, you will be able to see what devices need improving, devices where you can save money by downsizing along with those devices that are not being actively used.
